Where to publish?
This is a key question when we start out working on new work - where is the right home for the finished piece? The field of SoTL in Politics and International Relations is growing, both in terms of the number of outputs and its importance, with several journals and alternative platforms that now host great SoTL work.
Check out the list below to consider which might be right for you and your work.
Disciplinary journals that publish SoTL
Published by APSA, this is the only SoLT-focused journal in our field. It particularly welcomes work that provides systematic tests and empirical evidence for pedagogical innovations.
Politics is the PSA's generalist journal, welcoming a range of political studies methods and approaches, including by those working on teaching and learning in the field. The journal seeks to challenge boundaries in the field.
Founded in 1968, this APSA journal publishes timely and original research relevant to political scientists. Like Politics, this includes SoTL - which falls under the journal's 'The Teacher' section.
International Studies Perspectives publishes articles on pedagogy, policy relevant scholarship, and practice, all of which focus on and are relevant to matters related to international relations and international studies.
A journal of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), European Political Science offers research articles, debates and opinion pieces about the political science profession, including contemporary teaching debates.
Monthly SoTL Roundup
The Active Learning in Political Science blog publishes a monthly roundup of all the SoTL published in the above journals. You can view the latest edition of the SoTL Roundup here.
