ASPIRE Events
Below you will find a list of planned events for the 2025-26 academic year. Members are automatically invited to all events - feel free to come to as many or as few as you want.
Another frequent event is our ASPIRE SoTL Circle.
This year's events
T&S Townhall
Held once a semester, this a chance to come together with other ASPIRE members, working in universities across the UK, to share experience and insight of life on the teaching track.
Meet the T&S Professor
This event series will invite a T&S Professor to share their story of how they got to their position and to answer your questions about promotion and progression on the teaching track.
Progressing Along the Teaching Track
This event will bring together T&S academics at different stages of their careers to discuss the different roles, responsibilities, opportunities, and challenges that emerge at each of these levels.
Promotion Workshop
Whilst there is increasing clarity on what constitutes the ‘Teaching and Scholarship’ academic pathway, there can still be marked differences in institutional approaches to promotion. In this event, members will have the opportunity to provide and receive feedback on promotion applications and their “pitch” for the next stage of their careers.
To Have and Have Not: Sabbatical Leave
One marked difference between institutional enactment of the teaching track is the provision of sabbatical leave. In this event, members will share their experience of having or not having sabbatical leave, how the practice impacts on career development, and pathways (both successful and unsuccessful) to achieving in-department policy change to see the practice spread.
Publishing SoTL
Publishing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is key to progression on the teaching track as well as ensuring that innovations scholars are undertaking can impact beyond their own classrooms. However, the world of SoTL publishing can be a mystery to many. In this event, we will invite speakers to introduce members to some of the outlets that might be suitable for their work and share stories of their own SoTL dissemination processes.
